Entertainment to Beat the Heat!

June 27, 2018 -- The sun is finally coming out to stay- and it’s getting HOT, HOT, HOT! Beat the heat and super sweaty weather by experiencing indoor adventures. From museums, to shopping, to staying active, there’s a way to keep entertained in Stark County when it’s just too hot to be outside.

With the summer heat on the rise, it can get tough to keeping kids or yourself entertained outside for long periods of time. There are tons of travel gems in Stark County for all ages that guarantee to bring some summer fun to the great indoors! But if you are taking on the heat and getting in on all of the outdoor fun that Stark County has to offer, remember to stay hydrated and apply that sunscreen!

1. McKinley Presidential Library and Museum

Find fun for the whole family in this exceptionally fun, yet educational museum. With fascinating exhibits from Discover World, featuring dinosaurs and science experiments to the Hoover Price Planetarium where you can see all the possible stars in a night’s sky, how will you ever choose a favorite part of the day?

2. Center Ice Sports Complex

You’ll stay chill this summer while cruising around Center Ice on your skates! Check out Center Ice’s open skate schedule and stop in to cool you down. Rent some skates and have a ball making rounds on the ice with your friends!

3. Hartville MarketPlace & Flea Market

Visit the Hartville Marketplace and Flea Market to check out all the new renovations inside! New stores and a new look calls for a trip to check out all the changes. With the new hours of operation being Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., there’s plenty of time to stop out and start shopping to avoid that blistering sun! Plus, have children? Enjoy Family Fun Days inside the South Side Market every Tuesday this summer! 

4. Massillon Recreation Center

Best way to beat the dry heat? Get in the water! Dive into the Massillon Aquatics Center inside of the Recreation Center to swim off the sweat. Offering a two-lane lap pool, a lazy river, a multi-purpose/splash down pool, a dry sauna, kiddie play pool, and two, 19 feet high, water slides makes for one great summer day.

5. SKYMAX Trampoline Arena

When I say jump, you say how high? Get some major air in at this 11,000 sq. ft arena of FUN. Enjoy an open jump in the platform of trampolines or put your skills to the test in 3D Dodgeball or Slam-Dunk Basketball. Seek new heights in this all ages air adventure!

6. Fannie May Chocolate Tour

Satisfy that sweet tooth and enjoy the indoor attraction around a common favorite- CHOCOLATE! Get a behind the scenes look at all things Fannie May such as how the company was started, how the candies are made, and even sample a few pieces. 

7. Escape Room Downtown

Do you love solving puzzles? Do you wish you were a real-life Sherlock Holmes? An Escape Room is the plan for you! Choose your destiny in various themed rooms and get into the action. From discovering secrets, to robbing a gallery, find the hidden clues to crack the case and escape before time runs out!

8. Laser Quest

Ready, aim, LASER! Strap on your flashing light pack, grab your laser gun and take on your friends, family, and strangers in the ultimate laser battle. Hiding in bunkers, and running through the course, and cutting corners to rack up points is sure to get you to break into a sweat. All that hard work can land you on the daily leaderboard to really show them who’s boss!

9. The Troll Hole Museum

Who knew the Guinness World Record for a troll collection was hosted in Northeast Ohio?  With over 20,000 trolls on site, this guided tour is sure to give you all the knowledge you wanted about the classic troll doll.

10. Hot Pots Pottery

Let your inner artist out and create the perfect summer souvenir! From figurines, to dishware, to photo frames, there’s a perfect paintable piece for everyone. You’ll spend hours inside of fun selecting a piece and perfecting it with paints!
