Canton First Friday: Find Out What’s Going On!

August 28, 2019 -- The monthly music, food, and art festival held on the streets of the Canton Arts District! On Friday, September 6th it's time to celebrate the heroes in our community. Enjoy over 50 vendors with food, art, and art activities, plus your favorite Downtown Canton shops, restaurants, and live music.

  • Be your own superhero by flying high on our FREE bungee trampolines on 3rd Street NW. Help some local heroes from the Canton Police Department "Fill the Cruiser" on 4th Street NW near Print and Press. Bring non-preishable food items, hygiene items, socks, gloves, or hats.
  • Check out these superheroes and go Over The Edge for Lighthouse Ministries! One hundred people will have the opportunity to rappel down the Historic Onesto Lofts and Bliss Tower, a 14-story building with a rich history, located in the heart of downtown Canton. This day-long event and celebration will feature loads of opportunities for fun for the whole family. The Block Party at the base of the building will include inflatables, food, a photo booth, live music, and make-and-take stations for kids. This community event will be something special for participants and spectators alike.
  • Boomdyada (332 4th St NW) Make-n-Takes; Fall Moss and Flower necklaces and glow-in-the-dark Marimo necklaces.
  • Buzzbin (331 Cleveland Ave NW) Indoor stage: Mudhouse Gang / Gigini / Joshua Powell / Dirty Fuss. Outdoor Stage : Got It Got It Need It / Honky Tonk Kid (Donnie Casey)
  • Canton Palace Theatre (605 Market Ave. N) It’s a bird! It’s a plane! Actually, it’s just the FREE family movie “Superman” (1978) at 7:30pm.
  • Avenue Arts Marketplace and Theatre (324 Cleveland Ave. NW) Upstairs Strange Local Studios Presents works and studies completed by Steven Kyle Larsen with a focus on nature and form expressed with both mechanical and organic line. Mixed Media, maps and trails. Downstairs features 'Interstellar Studies' by Alaska Thompson. New First Friday gear in stock. Tshirts, tank tops, hoodies, and more!
  • Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography (520 Cleveland Ave. NW) Book signing with Steve McCurry during Canton First Friday. See a collection of photographic works by McCurry, one of the most prodigious photographers of the last 30 years. He is best known for his photo "Afghan Girl."
  • Vintage Frame Affair (336 4th Street NW) Spend $20 and get a free Space Ghost button. $5 off all framed "Ready to hang" prints in the shop!
  • Pinetree Primitives and Rustic Riches (334 4th Street NW) Stop in and stencil your own change/trinket bag for just $1! Choose your superhero and pick a team. Justice League or the Avengers?
  • Lynda Tuttle’s Art Center (209 6th St NW) Unwind to the music of Salinas Pali, performing from 6-9p. New hand sewn art journals by Claire Marks, Ghee Designs Shreveport LA handbags & much more art!
  • The Hub Art Factory (336 6th st NW) will be featuring new artist, Sam Lilenfield, in her first gallery show! Sam's poppy style and excellent craftsmanship makes for engaging embroideries and trendy screen prints that are sure to strike a chord. Also, West Coast Fuego will be selling authentic Mexican tacos on the back patio, so make sure to come with an appetite! Doors are open 6-10pm and the exhibit is free for all ages.
  • Strung by Shawna (221 5th St NE) Seven new string art mini designs have just been released! Stop in to the shop to see these limited edition kits and they will be available for purchase for only $20. No make and take will be available this month.
  • Silo Arts (431 4th St. NW) Sewing the Seasons of Ohio A cacophony of color and embroidery, Silo Arts and Meadow Studio present a textile show of all things sewn. Artists at the studio have been working for many months on everything from a large group project to smaller, yet still impressive , pieces. Please come down and enjoy the work of our joyful studio.
  • Show off your love of local goods with a stop at your hometown headquarters: Print & Press Shop & Studios (429 4th Street NW)! Print & Press is hosting Goldy the Goat, the official mascot of the Pro Football of Fame, from 7 to 8 p.m. Goldy will meet and greet fans, and pose for fun photos. Fans will even get a collectible card ’signed’ by Goldy! Plus, shop awesome fall styles from Little Chicago Clothing Co., fresh greetings and gifts from Letterpress Jess, and handmade goods from more than 30 midwest makers.
  • Canton Museum of Art (1001 Market Ave. N.) Fall Exhibits Opening Reception from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Join the CMA for the opening of their Fall Exhibits “Through Darkness to Light: Photographs Along the Underground Railroad” and “The Spirit of Clay” from their Permanent Collection. Get the chance to meet former President of the United States Abraham Lincoln while enjoying FREE admission, complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Suitable for all ages!
  • Be A Better Me Foundation (525 Market St. N) Join BABM and show them your Super Hero Talents by stopping by and challenging them to a dual of games.
  • Cantonology (306 4th St. NW) End of summer sale - stop by and take advance of the discounts! Be a hero and start on your holiday shopping early this year! Hero-themed kids' craft, plus everyone can be a hero by helping with the community project of making fleece-tied blankets to donate to Akron Children's Hospital.
  • Empty Bin Zero Waste (310 4th St NW) $4 off the $16 Straw Set. The set includes four straws, two straw cleaners, and a bag all for $12.
