Canton First Friday: Find Out What’s Going On!

December 18, 2018 -- Ten local carvers and our team from Elegant Ice Creations and bringing the fire and ICE tonight in the Canton Arts District. Live carvings, professional demos, photo ops, and the return of the fire and ice tower.

  • Live ice carving demos on Court Ave at 6pm and 8pm. The fire and ice tower is lit at 7pm at Market Square. Thanks to our sponsors: Carpe Diem, Amvets 555, Grapes in a Glass, Georges Lounge, Collective Skate, the Essential Alternatives, Arrowhead Vintage and Handmade Goods, Downtown Canton Special Improvement District, Cantonology, Joseph Saxton, Abbott Electric, and Avenue Arts Marketplace and Theatre. Stop by Avenue and pick up an ice carving map so you see all the ice art!
  • Canton Palace Theatre (605 Market Ave. N) Join Elsa, Ana, Olaf, and the gang for a FREE showing of “Frozen” at 7:30pm. Tickets required, available in advance through the Canton Palace Theatre Box Office. Space is limited.
  • Avenue Arts Marketplace and Theatre (324 Cleveland Ave. NW) Opening night of “Bent” in the theatre. Showtime 8pm. Three new artist studios and Fairless Elementary “Fire and Ice” on display. 
  • Modern Ritual (326 Cleveland Ave NW) Nothing says winter like diamonds and snowflakes! Modern Ritual will be discounting all genuine diamonds by 10%, plus get 20% off their snowflake ends. 
  • Photographic greeting cards, by Cat Anders, are now available at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography's Book Nook. Select one or two and we can matte and frame them for you, for wall art! Lou Stoumen's photographs of Times Square, Hour by Hour, is on exhibit through January 31, 2018.
  • This year the Canton Film Fest will show 100 short films in three days. In order to whet your SHORT FILM APPETITE we're showing twenty seven minutes of short films every hour on the hour at 6, 7, 8 & 9 UPSTAIRS at the HUB. January is all documentary films. Audiences will vote on their favorite and have to win a FREE PASS to the festival! Canton Film Fest 8 will be held at the Palace April 26-28, 2019.

  • Muskellunge Brewing Company will have Josh Laird playing from 8pm until 11pm.
  • Makeshift (135 6th St NW) Join Chrystal Robinson-Shofroth for a solo exhibit of her artwork and a fundraiser to help market the New Jupiter Studios Innovation and Culinary Arts Complex
  • Ring in the New Year at Print & Press Shop & Studios (429 4th Street NW)! Take advantage of sales on seasonal apparel from Little Chicago Clothing Co. and calendars from Letterpress Jess, plus new work from more than 30 midwest makers and artists. And don't miss a printing demonstration from Letterpress Jess and Big Sal, the vintage letterpress printing press, from 7-9 p.m.
  • Grapes in a Glass (575 Market Ave. N) will be serving up our famous Hot Mulled Wine while you enjoy our live ice carver! Our specialty cocktail is the “White Walker”. Kris Farrell will be performing 6:30 - 8:30 and Dave Marchione 9-12. 
  • Canton Museum of Art (1001 Market Ave. N.) Join us from 5:00pm – 8:00pm for the First Friday of the New Year, and experience “Fire & Glass” at the Canton Museum of Art. Tour our latest exhibits and watch artist Kimberly Croskey-Gurski perform live glass demonstrations (Flameworked Glass, East Canton, Ohio). Enjoy FREE admission, FREE parking and a cash bar.
