30 Summer Fun Things You MUST Do This Summer in Canton

May 30, 2018-We have made it to Memorial Day, kids are getting out of school, vacations on your brain, and you are starting to plan summer fun activities for all ages. There are so many activities that you must explore in Canton, Ohio and its surrounding communities all throughout Stark County. Here are just a few of the top must do activities and events!

1. Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls & More Events

Whether you come to support one of your favorite players getting enshrined into the Hall or you are a huge fan Maroon 5, who are performing at the Concert for Legends—this celebration is an absolute summer MUST DO! All of the festivities kickoff with the start to football season when the Chicago Bears take on the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, August 2nd at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

2. Walk the Steps of the McKinley Monument

Take time to visit the McKinley Presidential Library & Museum—where kids will enjoy the hands-on activities at Discover World and take a step back in time in the Street of Shops. Pay your respects to the martyred President by taking the 108 steps to the top of the Monument, where the President and his wife, Ida are buried.

3. Visit the Butterflies

Spend the day hiking the trails at Beech Creek Botanical Garden & Nature Preserve and interact with the butterflies at the Butterfly House! Enjoy the brand-new Nature Playce playground and the hands-on environmental education systems.

4. Kids 12 & Under Become one of Pigskin's Pals

Membership includes free admission to attractions, goodies, and unique experiences just for Pigskin's Pals. Membership to Pigskin's Pals is FREE and available to children 12 and under. See all of the participating attractions and get your kids signed up today! 

5. Eat Lunch on the Patio at Table Six Kitchen & Bar

Enjoy the California vibe while sitting on the patio and enjoy the delicious food from bites to full meals. Your lunch would not be complete without getting one of their signature drinks, prepared with fresh juices, herbs and infusions or enjoy over 80 different spirits, unique beers and a variety of wines.

6. Mini-Golfing at Sluggers & Putters

Sometimes you just have to relive those teenage date nights, and go mini golfing again! Sluggers & Putters has SO many activities there, but their two-adventure mini-golf courses are worth an afternoon or evening out!

7. Summer Kids Movie Series

You don't have to spend a fourtune to stay cool and have fun with the kids this summer! The Canton Palace Theatre is proud to present the 15th year of the movie tradition at their historic theatre. On Mondays at 1PM throughout the summer--catch a movie on the big screen for only a $1! That's right only a $1 per person! Concessions will be open, so you can enjoy popcorn, candy, soda, and other delicious snacks! They are also proud to annouce their innagual season of the Sensorary Cinema, on Monday nights with movies beginning at 6PM. Click here to see the schedue of movies for both series. 

8. Enjoy the Piazza at Gervasi

Gervasi Vineyard is known for their phenomenal wines—but have you experienced the Piazza for lunch or dinner? This beautiful outdoor seating is located on the back patio of the Bistro right along the lake; enjoy delicious pizzas, sandwiches, wine, sangria and also featuring live music Tuesday-Sunday nights!

9. A Car Show Like None Other

The 28th Annual Cruise-On-In & Dance Party will take place on June 17th in Downtown Massillon from 11AM until 10PM. There are usually over 600 classic, antique and custom cars, trucks and motorcycles. Enjoy your favorite vendor food and rocking music from oldies to rock all day!

10. Go on A Canton Food Tour

Where history and food collide—what better way to explore Downtown Canton dining AND get to pass a football at the site that the National Football League was formed? This is a great afternoon or night out with friends and taste bites at an array of Downtown staples.

11. Canoe on the Tuscarawas River

Ernie’s Bike Shop in Massillon is the headquarters to canoeing or kayaking either a 6-mile or 11-mile trip down the Tuscarawas River. Canal Fulton Canoe Livery also offers a 6-mile or 11-mile option that you start in completely different locations on the Tuscarawas River. Pack your sunscreen and a picnic to enjoy a beautiful afternoon out with friends!

12. Downtown Canton Flea

Shopping, shopping, shopping in the Canton Arts District the Third Saturday of the month, May through October, sounds like a great time to me! Not only can you enjoy special deals at the resident stores and artists in the Canton Arts District, but also vendors from all over lining the streets with everything from art, crafts, antiques, handmade, vintage, farm to table fare, and so much more!

13. Go Golfing

Did you know Stark County was home to 22 public golf courses? From 9-holes to 36-holes each course is unique, challenging, and is worth calling off work to golf at! Many of the courses are family owned—so be prepared to be greeted with a smile! One of the courses, Clearview Golf Course, is on the Ohio Historical Register.

14. Go Shopping in Hartville

Not only is Hartville home to the Hartville MarketPlace & Flea Market and Hartville Hardware—but it is also home to boutique shopping in Historic Downtown Hartville. You need more than a day to go shopping at all of the different stores throughout the community!

15. Enjoy Summer Serenades in the Park

What happens when the spontaneous sounds of nature and people enjoying a park are combined with the orchestrated sounds of musicians?  Serenades in the Park - a free, family-friendly, series of brass, woodwind, and string ensembles performing all over Stark County and finishing with a full-orchestra concert presented by the Canton Symphony Orchestra and Stark Parks!

16. Enjoy the Breweries in Stark County

Kick back, relax, reunite old friends and make new friends over ice cold mugs of locally crafted beer. Explore craft brews and breweries throughout the Canton, Ohio region on the Hall of Fame Hops self-guided ale trail.

17. Visit the MAPS Air Museum

This Military Aviation history museum is perfect to visit in the summer, where you can see, interact, and explore over 47 types of aircraft. History buffs and airplane fanatics alike will love being able to sit in multiple planes, explore outside the hanger, and learn about American history in the Gallery of Heroes.

18. The Country Fest

Clay’s Park & Resort is home to the The Countryfest, featuring three days of country music stars, camping, a waterpark, and a music festival weekend with friends that you won’t forget! Headliners this year include Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Cole Swindell, Brothers Osborne, Jon Pardi, Chris Janson, and many more! 19. Go Swimming

Kids begging you to go swimming outdoors because the weather is warming up? Clay’s Park Adventure Waterpark includes a floating jungle gym, rope ladders, towering water slides, dueling zip lines and much more! Baylor Beach Park has a 2-acre water park lake with slides, diving boards, a roller, and many activities for kids of all ages to enjoy!

20. 720 Market

If you don’t see a trend with shopping—then you are missing out! 720 Market is a pop-up market that happens in July at St. Paul's Community Lot in North Canton and then again in September at Gervasi Vineyard. This market is filled with handmade wares and locally grown farm fare from makers, bakers, brewers, growers, keepers, upcyclers, pickers, jewelers, and more! This is a shoppers paradise.

21. Enjoy a Bittner at Taggarts

Nothing says Canton Tradition, as much as making a trip to Taggart’s and enjoying the delicious chocolate ice cream, salted pecans, and whipped topping that makes up a Bittner!

22. Celebrate Canton First Friday’s Chalk the Walk 

Happening July 6th, First Friday is a monthly party in the Canton Arts District that is home to over 20 art studios and boutiques, over 40 pieces of public art, and many phenomenal restaurants. Come celebrate this monumental Frist Friday with food, family arts activities, live entertainment from the biggest names in Stark County, and of course 20 chalk artists taking over the city!

23. Take a Step Back in Time and Ride The St. Helena III

The St. Helena III Canal Boat is pulled by two Percheron for an hour-long ride and travel down the canal just as they did in the late 1800s. A historian on board provides information on the history of the canal, the boat and the area. In addition to the public boat rides everyday throughout the summer, but also check out the variety of special themed cruises throughout the summer!

24. Island Party at the Massillon Museum

The absolute best part of this event, is it is completely acceptable to wear Hawaiian shirts and leis out on a Friday night, because well everyone else will be doing the same!  There is always great reggae music, tropical drinks, pulled pork and jerk sandwiches. An event that makes you feel like you are at a beach party, right in the middle of downtown Massillon! This year the event is happening Friday, July 20, so mark your calendars now!

25. Disc Golfing

Have you ever going disc golfing before? If your answer is yes, you know exactly how thrilling the game is and if your answer is no, you need to get yourself a disc and get out on the course! Stark County is home to 5 public disc golf courses and the best part—if you have a disc they are FREE to play. Enjoy championship level courses at Arboretum-Spiker Park in Canton and Oak Ledges in Massillon.

26. Go on the Massillon Millionaires’ Row Walking Tour

On August 19, find yourself on Historic Fourth Street in Massillon, to walk in the steps of Massillon’s prominent entrepreneurs and bankers, families who hosted Presidents, humanitarians and harbored fugitive slaves, and famous entertainers who once lived there. Appreciate architectural excellence and take a step inside the magnificent 1894 Five Oaks mansion. The Fourth Street Walking Tour is only $7 per person and take a tour of Five Oaks for an additional fee.  

27. Have Fun on the Farm

Nickajack Farms that is! Every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer enjoy $5 admission that includes Activity Barn, Discovery Barn, Playground, Rascals Roundup, and Barnyard Animals! The kids in your life begging you for a pony? Pony rides are available for an additional $5 per ride!

28. Go Fishing at the Fishing Derby

There are many fishing derbies throughout the summer all throughout the county! Many are sponsored by Stark Parks and you cannot miss the Fishing Derby on August 5 at Silver Park in celebration of the Carnation Festival. Bring your own pole, worms, and parent or adult, and cast your line and reel in the big one!

29. Enjoy Free Live Music in Downtown Massillon

The City of Champions is pleased to announce their Summer Concert Series from June 8th until October 13th in Downtown Massillon. The FREE concerts feature local musicians of all different genres, so bring your chair, blanket, friends, family or lover for a night out on the town!

30. Cache4Coins Geo Tour
