Public Art in Downtown Canton
And it's pretty interesting to look at. In and around downtown Canton, we are so fortunate to have a huge variety of public art that tells the story of our city. From the soaring football-esque spires of Centennial Plaza to the bold neon signage at spots like The Auricle and Grapes in a Glass, and from Patrick Buckohr's "Critter" sculpture series to the Special Improvement District's series of murals, there is a lot to see in a day or two.
Below, I'm sharing some of the public artwork that highlights the best of Canton, from food to shopping to our incredible parks.
The Eleven
"The Eleven" greatest moments in the first century of pro football come to life as public art. The public artworks were commissioned by ArtsinStark in partnership with the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Umbrella Alley
Umbrella Alley is the newest art attraction in downtown Louisville, Ohio! In partnership with citizens, local businesses, the City of Louisville, and ArtsinStark, a long-held dream has become a reality.
As part of the process of rejuvenating the downtown and creating an artistic and welcoming location, nearly 200 umbrellas were installed in the heart of Louisville. Umbrella Alley has become a favorite photo-op destination attracting people from all over the Tri-State area.
Chairs and benches line the alley so patrons can enjoy to-go lunches from any one of the amazing local restaurants, or they can simply enjoy gathering with loved ones. Lead artist, renowned Jeffrey Keirn, motivates the team with his artwork as he brings his inspiration and vision to Umbrella Alley to fill the brick alley walls. In fact, the artwork and the umbrellas may change at any time thus the fun of returning several times a year!
