Centennial Plaza

Overview

Centennial Plaza has quickly become a premier outdoor venue in Downtown Canton. Its creation was inspired by the City of Canton’s rich history and proud legacy as the birthplace of professional football. The design of this dynamic public space — featuring a park, monument elements, amphitheater, and restaurant area — commemorates every NFL player from the League’s first 100 years while establishing an iconic presence in the heart of downtown. Thoughtfully designed social spaces and striking architectural elements create a gathering place that will inspire residents and visitors for generations.

Officially opened in 2021, Centennial Plaza is highlighted by its dramatic 80-foot stainless steel spires and expansive football-shaped green lawn. The venue also features a large video screen, enhanced sound system, and public restrooms, making it ideal for concerts, festivals, movies, sporting events, and community celebrations. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, enjoy live entertainment, watch the big game, or simply relax with a picnic in a vibrant downtown setting. An artistic custom sign welcomes visitors to Canton with a symbolic nod to the McKinley Monument and the city’s football heritage. On the opposite corner of the Plaza, the NFL 100 Year Player Pylons feature two-sided, semi-transparent, internally illuminated glass panels displaying more than 25,000 player names from the League’s first century. Anchoring the Plaza is the sweeping steel Centennial Pavilion, an elegant architectural structure that frames and shelters the event lawn. At night, thematic LED accent lighting transforms the space with scripted scenes that enhance the Plaza’s energy and atmosphere.
