Historic Zoar Village
Overview
Visitors to Zoar Village travel back in time to explore this 19th century German village along the banks of the Tuscarawas River. A hardy group of 300 German Separatists built their homes and called their town Zoar, ""a sanctuary from evil."" Today the historic district features restored private homes, shops, B&B's, restaurants, and 12 restored living history museums, owned by the Ohio Historical Society and the Zoar Community Association. The center piece of Zoar is the 3 acre religiously significant formal garden featuring the center ""tree of life."" Zoar is open to the public for school, group, bus and individual tours through its quaint village April through October.
