Overview
Following the success of Ragtime: The Symphonic Concert, the Canton Symphony Orchestra once again joins forces with the Players Guild of Canton for a symphonic staging of Disney’sThe Hunchback of Notre Dame. With a sweeping score by Alan Menken, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a libretto adapted from the acclaimed stage production, this concert version brings new emotional clarity to Victor Hugo’s timeless story. At its center is Quasimodo, the cathedral bellringer whose physical isolation is matched only by his deep yearning to be part of the world beyond the towers of Notre Dame. His journey becomes a powerful meditation on belonging, prejudice, and the strength it takes to see beauty and humanity in unexpected places. Led by guest conductor Steven Byess, the full orchestra and Canton Symphony Chorus join a cast of outstanding regional performers from the Players Guild of Canton. Presented in a semi-staged format, this one-night-only performance showcases the musical and emotional depth of the original score, featuring beloved selections such as “Out There,” “God Help the Outcasts,” and “The Bells of Notre Dame.”A stirring blend of theatrical storytelling and symphonic scale,The Hunchback of Notre Dame in Concert continues the CSO’s commitment to collaborative performance and shines a light on the voices too often left in silence.
