Soup at Six - The History & Culture of Sneakers: From the 1830s to Air Jordans
June 4, 2026 6:00 PM –8:00 PM
Overview
First created in England during the 1830s, sneakers have come a long way from being used solely for sporting and recreation activities. Today sneakers enjoy a prominent position in modern culture for their bold colors, sleek designs, and athlete endorsements. Wear your favorite or most prized pair and join Membership Coordinator Zander Everman to learn more about the history and modern culture of sneakers.
Pre-registration is required, available online or call 330-455-7043. Deadline for reservations is May 28, 2026. Cost is $25 per person and includes soup, bread, and dessert.
After retiring from a 20 year Air Force career, Zander started volunteering at the Museum in exhibitions, collections, and special events in 2020. Enjoying the much calmer pace of life in the museum world, he took on the challenge of Membership Coordinator in June 2026. The first ever to serve in this position, he is able to focus solely on members with the goal of making museum membership fun for all members. Zander’s wide array of interests include sports (lacrosse, soccer, and football), sneakers, music, antiquing, learning new things, and of course visiting all types of museums.
