Planetarium Show: Wayfinders - Waves, Winds, and Stars
June 5, 2026 9:30 PM –10:30 PM
Overview
Polynesians used wayfinding for thousands of years to make long voyages across thousands of miles of open Pacific Ocean. Experience yourself being on the deck of the voyaging canoe Hokule’a as you explore traditional Polynesian navigation. Learn how to read the stars and interpret the winds and waves to navigate as the Hawaiian ancestors once did. Hear the story of how the Polynesian Voyaging Society saved this almost lost art and science of traditional, non-instrument navigation in Hawai’i. Celebrate with the Hawaiian people the resurgence of traditional Hawaiian wayfinding. A vital cultural practice that connects the people of Hawai’i with the stars, sea, and their voyaging canoes. A “Tonight’s Sky” program showing seasonal constellations and planets currently in the night sky will follow the show.
