A Legacy Revived: Exploring Stark County’s Rich Black History
Valid June 19, 2026 to November 27, 2026
Category: Museum Exhibits
This exhibition explores the history of the Black communities of Canton, Massillon, Alliance, and Waynesburg. It takes visitors on a journey beginning in the early 1800s, when the first Black families arrived in Stark County, and traces the challenges they faced upon settling in the North. The exhibition also highlights the vibrant business districts that once thrived—offering everything from ice cream to nationally touring nightlife entertainment—as well as the cherished places of worship that anchored the community.
Along the way, visitors will encounter the stories of remarkable community members whose lives and contributions deserve to be remembered on the walls of the Keller Gallery.
