Overview
The Fort Laurens Speaker Series returns for 2023 featuring interesting topics about American, Ohio and local history. The Speaker Series is free and open to the public. All presentations are held from 11 a.m. to noon in the Fort Laurens Theater.
May 6: Sports in the 18th Century, presented by Dr. Leslie Heaphy. Heaphy is associate chair and associate professor of history at Kent State University's Stark campus. She specializes in sports history. 20th century U.S. history and Asian history.
July 1: History and Culture of Native Americans in the Ohio Country in the 18th Century, presented by Alan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick is a local author, historian and artist. He will discuss the history of Native Americans around 1750 and the impact of European trade on native tribes.
Nov. 4: Common Myths in American History, presented by Dr. Jim Seelye. Seelye is an associate professor of history at Kent State University's Stark campus.
